 WHAT'S UP IN THE STUDIO?

autumn

Finally the weather seems to be cooling down.  I have the windows open today, despite the still high humidity.  It's lovely to hear the birds instead of the air conditioning unit!  Hopefully we will enjoy a gloriously long autumn with plenty of time to take a day in the mountains, along the Blue Ridge Parkway, to marvel at the leaves.  Our work calendar is full, time management police breathing down my neck, and gourds, canvases, wood panels are everywhere.  I am re-energized with the gourds thanks to Betsy Roberts and her excellent carver and bits.  I had the pleasure of meeting Betsy this summer at NW WA Gourd Festival where we were both teaching.  When I tried her equipment, I was absolutely sold!  I just finished a large piece, Carolina Wildflowers, for an invitational exhibit with Piedmont Craftsmen to celebrate the huge and spectacular rennovation of the Sawtooth Building which houses the Arts Council of Winston-Salem and Forsyth County, NC.  Without the new carver I would never have been able to finish in time. So, it's time now to get back to work on a new  piece, taking off from the new concept that Carolina Wildflowers began.

Celebration of Fine Art

is getting close!  We will have a larger space this year and I'm very excited about the work that is shaping up for my favorite show!  Be sure and put Scottsdale on your winter agenda - we'll be there from Jan 15 through Mar 27.

Many thanks to my friend, Deb, who undertook the thankless job of tutoring a bunch of us slow computer learners this year at the Celebration.  The result, you ask?  Computer literacy?  Perhaps, not quite, but we are now connected to Twitter and Facebook and NW Salon, so please follow me for some different takes on our travels, shows, wanderings and stuff we do along the way.

Salisbury has begun an art walk,

Second Saturdays

This has been a busy year for us.  We are on the road a great deal and when we are here in town, we are working on new pieces.  So, sadly, we have decided that we cannot participate in the Second Saturday Art Walks.  We continue to support our local artist friends and encourage you to visit the many galleries here in Salisbury.  Perhaps we will be able to participate next year, and, of course, we will let you know.
