| Whitney Peckman Contemporary Fine Art Paintings www.whitneypeckman-painter.com New work is centering around language and nature and the idea that language in the written form disassociates us from our natural surroundings. Go to the new website, above, for this and more work speaking of meadows and grasses which still inform much of what I paint. Light fragments, flickering insects, breezes, heavy seed pods are a language in North Carolina's landscape. Fog, soft lichen covered rocks, grey blue waters and crisp snow capped mountains are a language of landscape in the Pacific Northwest. Arizona deserts speak in buff sands, pewter mountains, sage cacti shot with iridescent lemon and apricot blooms. In the studio, I reconnect with these moments, not with photos, but with feeling, with memory. Working quickly, I seek that moment of fresh dew on wildflowers, grasshopper just gone, sun drying ground fog. I love the feeling of freshness while seeing the complexity of natural growth and light in layers and shadows, playing against each other.
